The film was preserved in 2003 by a joint effort of the Academy Film Archive, the British film Institute and 20th Century Fox, resulting in three 35mm fine-grain preservation negatives and two 35mm fine-grain protection master positives. / Silent film, with synchronized music and sound effects.

Survival status: The original 35mm camera negative of the American version of the film was lost in a vault fire at the Fox film storage facility in Little Ferry, New Jersey, on 9 July 1937 : Prints exist in the Národní Filmovy´ Archiv film archive [35mm nitrate positive (struck 1927, from the European 1.33:1 version, with Czech intertitles)]; in the Museum of Modern Art film archive [35mm diacetate positive (struck 1936, from the American Movietone 1.20:1 version)]; in the 20th Century-Fox film holdings [35mm fourth-generation fine-grain master positive (believed struck from the UCLA 35mm diacetate positive)]; in the British Film Institute National Archive film archive [35mm fifth-generation negative (struck from MoMA print), 35mm sixth-generation fine-grain positive]; in the Cinémathèque française film archive [35mm fifth-generation positive (struck late 1940s)]; in the George Eastman Museum film archive [35mm preservation positive] : The original American theatrical trailer exists : Outtake footage exists in the Library of Congress film archive [35mm positive] : A 35mm diacetate positive (struck 1936) previously held by the UCLA Film and Television Archive film archive was destroyed in 1992 due to advanced vinegar syndrome decomposition.
